Terms of use

The rules, in plain English.

Last updated June 5, 2026. This is a legal document, but we wrote it for humans first. If anything is unclear, email us at support@truepathfinance.ca.

Plain-English summary

The gist, in six lines.

The full terms below are the legally binding version. This summary is here to make the spirit of them easy to understand.

TruePath is an educational planning tool, not financial advice. You decide.

A 14-day free trial, then it renews until you cancel. Cancel any time.

If we raise prices, your rate is locked in for as long as you stay on your plan.

You own your data. How we handle it lives in the Privacy Policy.

Use it lawfully, for your own planning. Do not resell or scrape it.

Projections are illustrations. Our liability is limited, as the full terms set out.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and TruePath Finance Inc. ("TruePath", "we", "us"), the Canadian company behind the retirement planning service at truepathfinance.ca and app.truepathfinance.ca (together, the "Service").

By creating an account, starting a trial or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. What TruePath is, and is not

TruePath is an educational retirement and tax planning tool. It helps you model your own numbers, see after-tax income and net worth projections, and explore "what if" scenarios using Canadian rules as we understand them.

TruePath is not a financial advisor, investment dealer, tax preparer or law firm, and using it does not create an advisory, fiduciary or professional relationship. Everything the Service produces is an illustration based on the information you enter and on assumptions and rules that change over time. You make your own decisions, and for advice specific to your situation you should speak with a qualified licensed professional.

3. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
  • You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it current.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.
  • An account is for you and, where the plan covers a household, your spouse or partner. Do not share your login with anyone else or resell access.

4. Subscriptions, trial and billing

TruePath is a paid subscription. Current prices are shown on our pricing page and at checkout.

  • Free trial. New subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial. We collect your payment method at signup but do not charge it during the trial.
  • Billing. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins and your payment method is charged the price for the plan you chose (monthly or annual).
  • Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-applicable price for your subscription, until you cancel.
  • Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. You authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method for the fees that apply to your plan.

5. Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and it does not renew after that.

Because we offer a 14-day free trial so you can evaluate TruePath before paying, we generally do not provide refunds for fees already charged for a billing period. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection law.

6. Price changes

We may change our prices over time. We designed our approach to be fair to existing members.

  • A price change applies to new subscriptions from the date it takes effect.
  • If you have an active subscription, your price stays the same for as long as your subscription remains continuously active on the same plan.
  • Switching plans (for example monthly to annual), or letting a subscription lapse and starting a new one, moves you to the then-current price.
  • We will give you advance notice of any change that would affect what you pay, so you can decide before it applies.

7. Acceptable use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Break the law, or use TruePath to provide regulated financial, tax or legal advice to others.
  • Copy, scrape, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the Service or its content.
  • Interfere with, overload or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other accounts.
  • Upload anything malicious, or anyone else's personal information without their consent.
  • Misrepresent TruePath output as professional advice from us.

We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe these rules are being broken.

8. Your content and data

You own the financial information and content you enter. You grant us a limited licence to store and process it solely to operate the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter. The quality of any projection depends on the quality of the inputs. You can export your plan and delete your account and data at any time.

9. Ask TruePath and AI features

Ask TruePath and other AI-assisted features generate plain-English responses using your plan context and a third-party AI model.

  • AI responses can be incomplete or wrong, and are educational information, not advice.
  • Do not rely on an AI response alone for a financial, tax or legal decision.
  • How AI providers handle the data we send is described in our Privacy Policy. We do not use your data to train any TruePath model.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, calculations and the TruePath name and logo, is owned by TruePath Finance Inc. or its licensors and is protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own retirement planning while your subscription is active. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

11. Not professional advice

This is important enough to say on its own. TruePath provides general educational information and modelling tools. It does not provide investment, financial, tax, accounting or legal advice, and it does not recommend any specific product, security or course of action.

Projections rely on assumptions and on rules (including CPP, OAS, RRSP, TFSA and RRIF rules) that can change and that we may not apply perfectly to your circumstances. Before acting, confirm the details with a licensed professional qualified in your province, such as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or a tax advisor.

12. Disclaimers and no warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any projection, figure or output is accurate, complete or suitable for your situation.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TruePath Finance Inc. and its directors, officers and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, savings, data or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service, or from any decision you make based on it.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain of these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold TruePath Finance Inc. harmless from claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of the law or of another person's rights.

15. Termination

You can stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the Service is no longer reasonable.

On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnification) continue to apply.

16. Third-party services

We rely on third-party providers (for example Stripe for payments) to run the Service. Your use of those features may also be subject to the provider's own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in the app. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Alberta, Canada, except where applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
